People Don’t Know What You Do—Because You Haven’t Told Them Clearly Enough
Let’s cut the cute for a second…
If people still aren’t buying, signing up, or asking questions about your offer—it’s not because your offer sucks.
It’s because your message isn’t punching them in the face.
(In the nicest way possible, of course.)
In a world that scrolls fast and skims faster, clarity wins. Every time.
👉 Clarity > Clever.
👉 Connection > Perfection.
But here’s the deal: most entrepreneurs, especially creative ones, struggle with this hard.
We get caught up in being clever, being interesting, being different—when in reality, your audience just needs you to be clear.
If they don’t know what you do and who you do it for → they will scroll past. Every time.
The Clarity Gap That’s Costing You Sales
Let’s talk about what I call The Clarity Gap. It’s that frustrating space between:
- How YOU think you’re communicating what you do
- How your AUDIENCE actually hears it
And that gap? It’s often way wider than we think.
You might believe your content is crystal clear.
You might think your Instagram bio “totally says what I do.”
You might assume people get it because you’ve posted about your offer… once.
But here’s the truth: If someone stalked your last 5 posts right now, would they really know what you do?
- Would they know what problem you solve?
- Would they know who it’s for?
- Would they know how to work with you?
If the answer is “maybe” or “I’m not sure”—that’s a clarity gap.
And that clarity gap is quietly costing you sales and opportunities every single day.
Why This Happens (Hint: It’s Not Because You’re Bad at Business)
Here’s the thing: if you struggle with this, you are NOT alone.
Most of us do. Especially if you’re a creative entrepreneur, solopreneur, or building your brand from the ground up.
Why?
Because we’re IN IT. We know our offers so well that we start talking about them like everyone else does too.
We start posting tips, stories, aesthetic content—and forget to explicitly, clearly say:
👉 This is who I help
👉 This is what I help them do
👉 This is how we can work together
And because we see our own content constantly, we assume we’re repeating ourselves enough.
Spoiler alert: you’re probably not.
Your audience is not stalking every post you make. They need you to be clear. Repeatedly. Consistently. Loudly.
Why Clarity Beats Clever (Every Time)
I get it. It’s tempting to want your content to be fun, witty, aesthetic, clever.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth:
Clever content that isn’t clear → doesn’t convert.
Aesthetic content that isn’t clear → doesn’t convert.
On the flip side?
Clear content that connects → converts like crazy.
Because people do not buy what they do not understand.
They buy when they feel seen, when they trust you, and when they clearly understand:
- What problem you solve
- Who you solve it for
- How they can work with you
If your content doesn’t check all three boxes consistently → you will stay stuck in the scroll → with people liking your stuff but not buying.
The Quick Content Audit: Are You Clear Enough?
Here’s a simple gut check you can run TODAY:
👉 Go look at your last 5 posts. Right now.
Ask yourself:
- Would someone who had never met me know what I do?
- Would they know what problem I solve?
- Would they know who my offer is for?
- Would they know how to take the next step? (DM me, click here, book a call, grab this freebie, etc.)
If the answer to any of those is “no” → you know what your next post should be about.
How to Start Closing Your Clarity Gap
Now let’s get practical → how do you start closing this clarity gap?
1️⃣ Write Your “I Help” Statement
Even if you never post this exact sentence, you need it in your brain and woven through your content.
“I help [who you help] [what you help them do].”
Example:
→ I help creative entrepreneurs build warm, engaged communities and sustainable businesses—without burnout or hustle culture.
Your version might be:
→ I help overwhelmed moms simplify their homes and lives through intuitive organization.
→ I help online business owners grow profitable audiences through community-first engagement strategies.
→ I help content creators create more content in less time with done-for-you tools and templates.
If you can’t say it simply, your audience can’t hear it clearly.
2️⃣ Post It. Often.
Once you have your “I help” statement → POST IT. Not once. Often.
Ways to post it:
- In your IG bio → pinned post → featured Story Highlight
- As a standalone caption → “Here’s who I help and how.”
- In your email signature
- In your FB profile bio / pinned post
- On your website home page header
Remember: It is not repetitive. It is effective. Your dream clients need you to say it more than you think.
3️⃣ Rotate Through These 4 Clarity Content Types
To keep your messaging clear and connected, rotate through these types of posts regularly:
1️⃣ “I help” / what I do post → explicitly say it.
2️⃣ Problem post → talk about the problem you help solve. Example: “Struggling to keep your FB group alive? I can help.”
3️⃣ Who it’s for post → call out your audience clearly. Example: “If you’re a creative entrepreneur building a business in the middle of life chaos → I see you. That’s who I help.”
4️⃣ How to work with me post → clear CTA → how to take the next step.
If you cycle these 4 post types through your content every 2-3 weeks → you will ALWAYS be building clarity and trust.
The Bottom Line: Clear Brands Win
At the end of the day → people don’t buy because your content is pretty.
They buy because they understand exactly what you do → and believe you can help them.
Confused people do not buy.
Clear people do.
So today → here’s your action step:
👉 Go write (or rewrite) your “I help” statement.
👉 Go post it.
👉 Go clean up your bios / pinned posts so they clearly tell people what you do.
The world doesn’t need more noise.
It needs YOUR voice → clearly. Consistently. Confidently.
Now go show them what you do.
