Office Staff Report: Surviving Sick Days, Chaos, and Catch-Up

Filed by Charlie & Spartacus, Department of Shenanigans

Greetings, loyal readers. It’s your favorite four-legged executives here with a full disclosure report on the absolute circus that has been our office these past two weeks. Normally, we’d keep things professional (well, as professional as you can when half your team still can’t type without opposable thumbs), but transparency is important in business. So let’s talk about what really happens when the human CEO gets sick, the office schedule goes sideways, and the canine staff is left to hold it all together.

The Unexpected Sick Leave

Our human boss (you know her — tall, caffeinated, prone to muttering at her laptop) came down with some kind of stomach bug that completely derailed the office. Productivity? Flatlined. Deadlines? Slipped right through the cracks like crumbs under the couch.

While she spent days alternating between naps and groaning about her POTS flare-up, we were forced to take the reins of this business empire. Let me tell you, it’s not easy running a multi-brand empire when your only credentials are:

  • Barking at UPS trucks
  • Stealing socks
  • Knowing exactly when the cheese drawer opens

But we did our best.

Charlie (Head of Security) monitored the premises with military precision, ensuring that no suspicious activity occurred within a three-mile radius — except for the Amazon delivery driver, who continues to arrive daily like clockwork. Suspicious. Very suspicious.

Meanwhile, Spartacus (Chief Snack Acquisition Officer) doubled efforts in the kitchen. Admittedly, results were mixed: one successful counter-sniffing operation but zero actual snacks acquired. The human is unreasonably stingy with food distribution during sick leave.

Office Coffee Rations Depleted

Another critical issue: coffee production halted. Normally, the human brews enough to keep the house smelling like a Starbucks inside of a construction site. But during sick week? Barely a pot a day. We were appalled. Office morale plummeted.

Charlie even staged a protest by refusing to move from the human’s desk chair, effectively blocking any chance of work resumption. Management ignored his demands, but his nap was glorious.

The Catch-Up Week from Hell

Fast forward to recovery: our human finally crawled out of her sick cocoon, armed with determination, a notebook, and enough sticky notes to wallpaper the house. She declared it was “catch-up week.”

Translation:

  • Every half-finished task suddenly became urgent.
  • Every business idea she’d scribbled during sick brain fog was now considered “priority.”
  • And somehow, WE got blamed for the mess when she discovered 43 new notifications and 100+ unread messages.

For the record: the staff takes no responsibility for unhandled emails. We don’t even have thumbs.

🐾 Staff Contributions

Despite the chaos, the dogs delivered their usual brilliance.

Charlie: Head of Security

  • Barked at 87 suspicious entities (including 3 squirrels, 12 leaves, and 1 pizza delivery guy who forgot the breadsticks).
  • Successfully alerted the office when the neighbor sneezed.
  • Kept the mailman on his toes by ensuring every delivery was met with fierce barking, followed by tail wags once the danger had passed.

Spartacus: Chief Snack Acquisition Officer

  • Performed multiple recon missions in the kitchen, including sniff-testing grocery bags and strategically placing herself underfoot during meal prep.
  • Attempted to bribe the human with sad eyes.
  • Successfully secured one piece of cheese. (A record for the week!)

Cat Division (Unofficial & Unmotivated)

  • Slept through all meetings.
  • Sat on the laptop during a Zoom call, causing technical “difficulties.”
  • Maintained a general aura of disdain.

Productivity Metrics

Let’s crunch the numbers:

  • Human Coffee Consumption: Back to normal (4+ cups/day). Office morale stabilized.
  • Blog Posts Written: 2. (One of them entirely dictated between dog walks.)
  • Etsy Listings Updated: 3 (with at least one featuring dog hair as an “authentic charm”).
  • Social Media Posts: Enough to keep the algorithms happy, but not enough to stop the human from doom-scrolling Pinterest.
  • Dog Walks Taken: Only 8 out of a possible 14. Unacceptable. HR grievance filed.

Notable Hijinks

Because what’s an Office Staff Report without chaos?

  • Charlie attempted to “help” with laundry by removing socks from the basket. Twice.
  • Spartacus photobombed an Etsy mockup session, adding “authentic dog ear cameo” to the preview images. (Honestly, it could be a new branding tactic.)
  • The cat knocked over an entire cup of pens, causing a 30-minute productivity delay. The dogs seized the opportunity to nap.
  • The human accidentally spilled coffee on her planner, which we assume is a new form of caffeinated manifestation.

Lessons Learned

Here’s what the staff learned from Sick Week + Catch-Up Week:

  1. Systems matter. If the human had scheduled content ahead of time, maybe she wouldn’t have spiraled into panic.
  2. Coffee is non-negotiable. Sick or not, production must continue. We’re lobbying for backup baristas (aka the kids).
  3. Delegation saves lives. Honestly, if she’d let the dogs handle outreach, we’d have landed at least one brand deal with Purina by now.
  4. Rest is work. Even CEOs (and humans pretending to be CEOs) need downtime. The middle of burnout isn’t the place where brilliance grows.

Final Notes from the Staff

We survived. Barely.
But like any resilient business, the office clawed its way out of chaos and landed back on its four feet (and two human ones).

To all the entrepreneurs reading this:

  • If you’ve ever had a week where everything collapsed, you’re not alone.
  • If you’ve ever felt like your staff (human or furry) judged you for being unproductive, you’re in good company.
  • And if you’ve ever been tempted to quit mid-catch-up week? Don’t. Because the comeback coffee always tastes better.

As for us? We’re requesting hazard pay in belly rubs, chew toys, and unlimited treats. Consider this our official invoice.

Until next week,
Charlie & Spartacus
