The Beauty of the Messy Middle

There’s something about Wednesdays.

Monday arrives with ambition. We make the lists, drink the coffee, promise ourselves that this is the week we’re finally going to get caught up.

Tuesday is usually spent trying to keep that momentum alive.

Then Wednesday rolls around.

The excitement has settled. The weekend still feels just out of reach. The laundry somehow multiplied overnight, your inbox has developed a personality of its own, and you’re wondering if your coffee is carrying this entire operation.

If that sounds familiar… welcome. Pull up a chair.

This is what I like to call the messy middle.

For the longest time, I thought purpose was something waiting for me at the finish line. I believed that once life felt organized, once the goals were reached, once the house stayed clean for more than twelve minutes, then I’d finally feel like I had it together.

Turns out, life had other plans.

Because the truth is, most of our lives aren’t lived in the highlight reel.

They’re lived on ordinary Wednesday mornings.

They’re lived while answering emails between loads of laundry.

They’re lived while learning something new, making dinner, walking the dogs, checking off a few things on the to-do list, and still wondering if you’ve done enough.

And maybe… that’s exactly where purpose has been hiding all along.

Not in perfection.

Not in having every answer.

Not in waiting until we’re “ready.”

But in showing up anyway.

I’ve learned that some of the biggest changes in life don’t happen with fireworks and confetti. They happen quietly.

One decision to apply for the job.

One blog post.

One journal entry.

One conversation.

One fresh pot of coffee.

One tiny step that doesn’t seem like much until you look back months later and realize those little moments completely changed your direction.

That’s the funny thing about growth.

You rarely notice it while it’s happening.

You notice it when you suddenly realize you’re handling situations that used to overwhelm you.

You notice it when you stop chasing every shiny new idea because you’ve finally found something that feels like home.

You notice it when your confidence grows one small promise to yourself at a time.

And maybe that’s what today is.

Not a day to have everything figured out.

Not a day to compare your journey to someone else’s highlight reel.

Just another opportunity to keep moving forward.

Slowly.

Intentionally.

Messily.

So if you’re reading this with a cup of coffee in your hand and a hundred things still left to do, let me remind you of something.

You don’t have to become a completely different person by Friday.

You don’t have to earn your worth by crossing every item off your list.

You don’t have to rush through today just to get to tomorrow.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is simply show up.

Take the next step.

Celebrate the small win.

Rest when you need to.

Then wake up tomorrow and do it again.

Because purpose isn’t always found in the destination.

Sometimes it’s quietly waiting for us in the middle of the mess.

And honestly?

I think that’s a pretty beautiful place to be.
